YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS

This is Samatic’s privacy policy, in full. It is short because the machine does very little: nothing about you is collected, and there is nowhere for anything to be sent. The same words are printed on the leaflet inside the app, folded under the machine.

Samatic is made by Maxwell Commer, and this policy covers the Samatic app for iPhone and for Apple TV. It covers nothing else.

Samatic asks for permission to read the albums in your photo library so there is something to put in a tray. It reads them. It does not copy them, change them, delete them or upload them. Where a picture is kept only in iCloud, the phone fetches it from your own iCloud account the ordinary way — that is your connection to Apple, and this machine is not a party to it.

While the clicker is plugged in, the slide in the gate goes straight from this phone to your Apple TV, one picture at a time, over your own network. The two devices talk directly to each other and the system encrypts what passes between them. There is no server in the middle and no copy kept at either end. Pull the plug and the sending stops.

Nothing is collected. There is no account to make, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no crash reporting and no third-party code of any kind in this app. Nobody receives anything about you, your photographs or your use of the machine — not Apple, not us, not anyone. There is therefore no third party with whom anything could be shared, nothing held anywhere to be sold or lost, and nothing that could be given to anyone who asked for it. None of this changes with who you are or how old you are: children are collected from exactly as much as everybody else is, which is not at all.

The only things written down are kept on your own phone: the three adjustments on the form (the timer, the sound, the vibration) and the three figures on the service record (shows given, slides projected, hours on the lamp). They stay there for as long as the app does, and no longer. Ringing CLEAR on the leaflet starts the record again. Deleting Samatic takes the whole lot with it, and there is no copy anywhere else to ask anyone to delete. You can take back permission to read your photographs whenever you like, in the phone’s Settings under Privacy & Security, and the machine will simply have nothing to put in a tray.
